Nov 2- At sea cruising north up the coast of Argentina
Nov 3- Arrive in Puerto Madryn, Argentina
Finally the seas have calmed and the sun is again shining, although it is still only a chilly 50 degrees F. This part of Argentina is very dry and desert like and still very far south on the continent. It looks more like New Mexico with all the sand and sage bushes. Interestingly you think you are somewhere in the southwest until you see the strange animals. There are sheep roaming everywhere on hundreds of acres and we saw wild guanacas and maras and of course thousands of penguins!
There are over 300,000 small penguins in the reserve here. There were boroughs and nests all within a mile of the shoreline. We were able to walk along a path through the colony and observe them closeup in their nests, sunning and walking around. They were so cute but we were warned not to touch them as they will peck you very hard with their beaks and they can become aggressive and attack.

After the eggs hatch this colony will grow to a million!
After we got back to the ship, we saw 4 or 5 Right Whales who were residing in the bay here. They are very friendly and come right up next to the ship. It's calving season so there were pairs of mothers and babies playing in the water.
What an unexpected surprise to see so many animals. Viva Argentina for protecting your animals!
